Degree Progress Report

A Degree Progress Report (DPR) is used for degree planning and advising.  It compares the courses you've taken to the requirements for your degree and shows what you still need to graduate.  By bringing all of your requirements - major, minor, core requirements, etc. - together in one report, it is easier for you to plan and complete your academic goals.

The Degree Progress Report (DPR)

bullet

What is a DPR?

bullet

A DPR is used for degree planning and advising.  It compares the courses you've taken to the requirements for your degree and shows what you still need to graduate.  By bringing all of your requirements - major, minor, core requirements, etc. - together in one report, it is easier for you to plan and complete your academic goals.

bullet

Who can use the report?

bullet

You can run a DPR if you are a student who is enrolled or is eligible to enroll at Boise State and if you are planning to graduate under a currently eligible catalog.  If you are not currently enrolled but have access to BroncoWeb, you can run a DPR in the What-If mode.

bullet

Will the report use transfer and test credit?

bullet

Yes.  A few weeks after you are admitted as a degree-seeking student, your transfer courses are equated to Boise State courses wherever possible and entered into the system along with credit for tests such as CLEP and AP.  Your DPR will use equivalent courses just as it uses courses taken at Boise State.

bullet

Running the Report

bullet

How do I print my report?

bullet

You can print your DPR on BroncoWeb.  Printing your DPR is as simple as printing your unofficial transcript.  You can print the report from your browser or you can request that a printer-friendly version be sent to your email address.  See Accessing the DPR

bullet

How does my advisor get a copy of my report?

bullet

Your advisor has the ability to run your DPR on BroncoWeb , just as you do.

bullet

Reading the Report

bullet

How is the report organized?

bullet

Your DPR shows the requirements for your major or minor as they are listed in the university catalog.  The sample DPR, provides you with a step-by-step guide to each section of the report.  See Sample DPR

bullet

How do I know if a requirement HAS been satisfied?

bullet

Requirements that have been satisfied show the course(s) used to fulfill the requirement directly below the requirement.

bullet

How do I know if a requirement has NOT been satisfied?

bullet

The DPR will identify requirements that have NOT been satisfied by showing the requirement in BOLD with the statement "Requirement Not Satisfied" in RED followed by details about what is needed to fulfill the requirement.

bullet

What does "Required/Needed" mean?

bullet

If a requirement is NOT satisfied, the report will list the courses or units (credits) that are required, and then list the number of courses or units that are still needed.

General Report Questions

bullet

What if a course I have taken is not being used to fulfill a requirement?

bullet

If you expected a particular course to fulfill a requirement, and it has not, meet with your advisor as soon as possible.  Your advisor can help you determine if that course is a reasonable substitution for a required course and can help you complete an Adjustment of Academic Requirements form.  If you know you have already submitted an academic adjustment form, contact degreeprogress@boisestate.edu.  It may be that you have changed your major or minor, and they will check to see if your adjustment can be applied to the new major or minor.

bullet

How does the DPR use courses that are in progress?

bullet

Courses that are not graded are considered to be "In Progress," and your DPR will use those courses to fulfill specific requirements.  Because the DPR will use an "In Progress" course to fulfill a requirement, it is important to run your DPR after you drop or add courses and after your final grades are received.

bullet

What if I have an incomplete grade in a course?

bullet

Courses with a grade of incomplete (I or IP for graduate students) are listed at the bottom of your report in the "Incomplete" Courses section.  If you do not complete the terms of the contract, an automatic "F" will be assigned.  Your DPR will not use any courses with incomplete grades to fulfill specific requirements.

bullet

What if I am repeating a course?

bullet

If you are repeating a course, be aware that the requirement usage of the repeated course and the total credit hours may not be accurately reflected on the Degree Progress Report until after the course has been graded and the repeat totals recalculated.

bullet

What if a course I have taken is not showing on the DPR?

bullet

Courses that are not used to fulfill specific requirements appear at the end of your DPR in the "Electives" or "Incomplete Courses" section.  Also, unsuccessful attempts (grade of "F") are not listed on your DPR, even though they are reflected in your cumulative totals.

bullet

How can I replace a required course with a different course?

bullet

Discuss your options with your advisor.  If your advisor recommends that you pursue an exception to your requirements, you will need to complete an Adjustment of Academic Requirements form and obtain the necessary signatures.  The form must be submitted to the Registrar's Office, so they can apply the exception to your DPR.  Allow two weeks for processing.

bullet

What if my academic adjustment is not reflected on the report?

bullet

If academic adjustments you have submitted do not appear on your DPR, it may be that you have changed your major or minor.  Contact degreeprogress@boisestate.edu.

bullet

What if the requirements in the catalog don't match the report?

bullet

Check your catalog year at the top of the DPR.  If this does not match the catalog you are using, you need to update your catalog information.  See "How do I change my catalog year?" under the section on "Changing Your Major, Minor or Catalog."

bullet

Why is the report not showing the results I expected?

bullet

If information about you is incomplete or inaccurate on BroncoWeb, your DPR may be also.  The DPR will use the major, minor and catalog information that exists for you in the system at the time you run the report.

bullet

Additional reasons your DPR may be inaccurate: (Click here to see more detail)

bullet

You are using a different catalog than is recorded for you in the system.

bullet

You have transfer credits, but your transcript has never been received or evaluated by Boise State.

bullet

You've completed a qualifying associate degree to become Idaho core certified after being admitted to Boise State, but it hasn't yet been recorded in the system.

bullet

You've discussed transfer equivalencies with your advisor and department chair, but those equivalencies have never been formally recorded in the system.

bullet

You've discussed substitutions or waivers with your advisor and department chair, but have never submitted an Adjustment of Academic Requirements form to the Registrar's Office.

bullet

You've had an Adjustment of Academic Requirements form approved, but you have changed your major or minor and the adjustment is no longer showing on your DPR.

bullet

If you see any problems on your DPR, let your advisor know right away or email degreeprogress@boisestate.edu.  Your DPR will not be accurate until the problems are resolved.

bullet

What-If Reports

bullet

What is a What-If Report?

bullet

A What-If report is a simulated version of your DPR.  There are two types of What-If reports.  The first is a Quick What-If that allows you to view how your coursework would apply to a different major or minor.  Note:  Running a Quick What-If report does NOT change your major in the system.  You must use the "View/Change My Major/Minor Plans" link on BroncoWeb to actually change your major.  The second report is the Course List What-If that allows you to view how courses that you have not yet taken may apply toward your current major or minor.

bullet

If I am thinking about changing majors, can the DPR help me decide?

bullet

Yes.  Running a Quick What-If report allows you to view how your coursework would apply to a different major or minor.  You can run as many different majors or minors you choose without actually changing your declared major.  Remember, after you have decided which major or minor you want to pursue, you need to change it on BroncoWeb by accessing the "View/Change My Major/Minor Plans" link.
