Chapter 1607 Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP)
Basic Eligibility:
- Veteran must be a member of a reserve component who has served on active duty on or after September 11, 2001 (under title 10 U.S. Code) for a contingency operation and who has served at least 90 consecutive days or more.
- The member must be an active participant in the guard or reserves. Termination of your contract will negate your 1607 benefits.
- National Guard/Reservists are eligible if their active duty is under section 502(f), title 32 U.S.C. and they have served for 90 consecutive days.
- Disabled veterans who are injured or have an illness/disease incurred or aggravated in the line of duty and are released from active duty before completing 90 consecutive days (at 40% rate).
To Enroll
The member will complete and return the following paperwork to the BSU Veterans Service Office, (VSO):
- Application for Educational Benefits VA Form 22-1990.
- Copy of DD-214 (Member 4/or long copy showing date of discharge).
- Copy of Reserves/Guard Kicker paperwork, if applicable.
- Copy of Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE)-obtained from member's unit.
- Copy of VA Form 22-0557 Certificate of Eligibility (Veteran will receive this within 10-14 weeks of application).
- Each semester, the veteran will bring a copy of their class schedule to the BSU VSO.
Changes
- Any changes to major, minor and/or school require the veteran to complete and return VA Form 22-1995 to the BSU VSO.
- All changes to the member's schedule (adds, drops, class cancellations, and/or withdrawals). The Veteran is required to bring a copy of their current class schedule into the VSO Office to update their Veteran's Information Card.

Tutor:
- If the member is in need of a tutor, please contact the BSU VSO.
- Complete and return VA Form 22-1990t to the BSU VSO.
- The member must be attending at least 1/2 time.
- Contact tutor, negotiate wages, and payment of tutor is the veteran's responsibility.
- The member is eligible to receive $100 per month, up to $600 per semester and up to $1200 total, for tutor reimbursement expenses.
