Graduation Process

How to Apply for Graduation

Apply for graduation by logging on to your myBoiseState Student Center account. For further instruction on where and how to apply online, please read the Apply for Graduation Help Document. A nonrefundable graduation application fee must be paid when applying. The application fee is $20.00 for undergraduate degrees, undergraduate certificates, and graduate certificates, and $25.00 for Master’s/Doctoral candidates. This fee covers the cost of your printed diploma and diploma cover. If you are earning two degrees at the same time, you must pay the fee for each degree.

The application deadline is the end of the first week of the semester you intend to graduate (see the Academic Calendar for the exact date). A late fee will be applied after the application deadline of $20.00 for undergraduate degrees, undergraduate certificates, and graduate certificates, and $25.00 for Master’s/Doctoral candidates. The last day to apply for graduation with a late fee is the last day of classroom instruction.

To ensure your candidacy, please review your degree information on myBoiseState with your academic advisor. A graduation evaluator will review your Academic Advisement Report (AAR) after the 10th day of classes of the semester in which you intend to graduate (it takes approximately 6 weeks to review all applications for graduation.). Upon review of your application, you will receive an email notifying you of your graduation status. You will be considered a valid candidate if you are enrolled in all outstanding requirements.

Notice

All graduating students must pay the graduation application fee, regardless of whether you intend to participate in commencement and regardless of whether you wish to receive a diploma.

Failure to Meet Graduation Requirements

  • As an undergraduate student, if you fail to meet all your degree requirements, your graduation date will be moved to the next available graduation date. Your graduation date will be allowed to change twice. If you do not complete the degree requirements after the second date change, the Registrar’s Office will place your graduation file on Inactive Status.

If your graduation date is moved, the Registrar’s Office will notify you via BroncoMail that your expected date of graduation has been moved to the next available graduation date because of incomplete degree requirements. If there are circumstances that the Registrar’s Office is not aware of that would allow you to graduate, you must notify your graduation evaluator within two weeks of receiving the email.

If your graduation application is placed on Inactive Status, the Registrar’s Office will notify you via BroncoMail. Even if your graduation application is inactive, you will still be eligible to register and attend classes unless there is a hold on your account related to another matter.

To become eligible for a new graduation date, contact the Registrar’s Office in writing of the new expected date of graduation. Your notification must arrive at the Registrar’s Office prior to the deadline to apply for graduation. A new application is not required, neither is an additional diploma fee.

To become eligible for a new graduation date, contact your advisor and program coordinator and request a review of your program, a schedule for completion, and a realistic graduation date. The program coordinator will then notify the Registrar’s Office in writing of the new expected date of graduation before the deadline to apply for graduation (this deadline is published in the university Graduate Catalog). A new application is not required, neither is an additional diploma fee.
